I can’t think of an “old” song more relevant to today than this one…
There’s something happening here,
what it is ain’t exactly clear.
There’s a man with a gun over there,
telling me I got to beware.
There’s battle lines being drawn.
Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong.
Young people speaking their minds,
gettin' so much resistance from behind.
What a field day for the heat.
A thousand people in the street.
Singing songs and carryin' signs,
mostly say, “Hooray for our side.”
Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your life, it will creep.
It starts when you’re always afraid,
step out of line, the man come and take you away.
…
We better stop
hey, what’s that sound?
Everybody look what’s going down.
My sister used to listen to “Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66,” they were not a great band, but their cover of “For What It’s Worth” is “worth” listening to, so is the cover by Tab Benoit, from the album “Power Of The Pontchartrain.”
